A Sunday Amongst the Flowers

A Sunday Amongst the Flowers

New friends + a photoshoot + flowers
=My Favourite Sunday

A few weeks ago I spent a Sunday afternoon shooting with a new photographer friend, Terrill Sands. Terrill takes amazing portraits and his photography style usually includes nature which goes really well with my love of flowers/gardens/ anything outdoors. We had been trying to set up a time to shoot but it was as little tricky as I was travelling for most of May so I super excited when our schedules matched up and we could shoot together.

We shot in two different locations and in two different outfits so it was really like two shoots in one (which is the best!) Freelance modelling tip: always brings variety of clothes with you. You can create more content that way and sometimes your first outfit choice clashes with the location/background, so it is always good to have options!

The first part of the shoot was downtown Fredericton on the south side near the water. I've shot here once or twice before and it is one of my favourite locations to shoot during the spring and summer time. If you are up for a little stroll, you can find some really wicked willow trees which photograph really well, especially as backgrounds in portraits.

My outfit in these shots is 90% thrifted. My friend Kayley has recently taken a minimalist approach to her wardrobe and I got to snag some pieces from her "To Be Donated' pile before she sent them off. The maroon hat was formerly a part of her wardrobe (originally from Aerie) as well as the lace, bell-sleeved crop top (original retailer unknown) The skirt came from Garage- I bought it literally years ago on sale, before the mesh skirt trend gained popularity.

I am so in love with this shot! The maroon in the hat works great in contrast with all the greenery.

HOW MAGICAL IS THIS TREE THOUGH??

The second part of the shoot took place at Scott's Nursery along the Lincoln Road. I always love a good trip to Scotts to look at some plants and dream of the day I have an extravagant garden of my own so I was over the moon to shoot there. It was a wildly busy day (unfortunate for us but great for Scotts!) so we had to get creative in finding good backgrounds that didn't have too many customers around. They had so many beautiful plants and flowers and fun fact: Scotts also has two guinea pigs and a cat named Olivia!

My outfit for these shots include my fav hat from Envy Clothing Co., a dress from H&M and my kimono which was a steal-of-a-deal from Winners.

These plants were so lovely and made a great background.

You may have noticed in previous photos but I have giant hands that I get from my Dutch side.

Kimonos can make any outfit go from "okay" to "interesting and fashion-forward" in an instant.

Don't worry I did't pluck it (:

This shoot was so much fun and Terrill was such a treat to work with. You can check out his work on his Instagram page which you can find here!

Can't wait for our next shoot!
