Film on Charlotte Street

Film on Charlotte Street

There are few things more satisfying to me than a Saturday morning spent shooting with someone as creative as Kelsey Schroeder.

A photoshoot with Kelsey is always filled with lots of laughter and almost always ends with us getting food. (What more could you want from a collab!?) Kelsey is infinitely creative and seriously knows her stuff when it comes to anything and everything photography related. She is so passionate about the work that she does and it always shows in the final product.

For this shoot I was a part of her new series which is shot with a medium format film camera. For those of you who don't know (just like me before this experience) this camera is super retro and produces a very distinct look in it's photos, completely in black and white. Kels had to develop the film by hand, which, if that doesn't show her dedication to the arts, I don't know what does.

Our location for the day was the Charlotte Street Art Centre, which, fun fact, I once was in that very same room years earlier to watch the premier of an art school short film I starred in. (10 points to you if you can find it on Youtube) With the room empty it reminded me of my ballet studio I danced in back in BC. The location seriously sparked all of the nostalgia in me.

It's not a secret that I am at my happiest when I am barefoot so I was pretty excited when Kels suggested that I take off my shoes for the shoot. In addition to my naked feet I wore one of my favourite mock turtlenecks from Garage paired with an old-school mom jean that I picked up from Value Village earlier in the week. (For only $6- what a steal!!) I loved this look and it was a perfect match for the chilly weather we were plagued with that morning.

Check out our shots below and the rest of Kelsey's series here.

I was so excited when I got these pictures back that I went through them right away with one of my friends I was with at the time. When we got to this one she said "Damn, Addie. You look like you really have something to say here"

I love how strange and unique this one is. Although it didn't turn out as planned, (obviously) it is one of my favourites!

Here is a secret: I am pretty insecure about the dark circles beneath my eyes. However, I LOVE that you can see them here.. I think this photo really captures a moment and because I look tired here it really makes this image an especially "human" ex…

The natural light in this room was phenomenal and you get a really great view of it here. PS Is there any better feeling than warm sunshine on your back ?!
